Jamil Yamani

ABOUT

Jamil Yamani is a Sydney based artist who graduated with a Masters in Fine Art Research from the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales in 2008 where he currently lectures. His projection based discipline integrates political & socio-cultural phenomena within a media based discipline. His recent research combines traditional Islamic artistic practices with contemporary art aesthetics, such as integrating sacred geometric designs with Australian suburban houses. Jamil has had major exhibitions at Artspace, Sydney and Campbelltown Arts Centre, Sydney. He has also exhibited internationally including Taiwan, Greece, Bulgaria and the USA, he has recently completed a successful residency at the International Studio and Curatorial Program in New York and has just been awarded an Australia Council for the Arts, mid-career grant.

 

Jamil has also worked for over 5 years in large-scale architectural projection design. He has a high level of expertise and knowledge of projection installation systems, projection mapping and technical systems. He has worked independently on a number of cutting edge ‘non’ screen based art works . Jamils background is in the Fine Arts and he has completed his Masters at  Art and Design:USNW Australia. He is also teaching a specialist course on video mapping and building projection, in the school of Media Arts at  UNSW Australia: Art and Design.
