Jamil Yamani

2012// ARC, END CYCLE, FALLOUT FACTORY, LIVERPOOL, UK

End Cycle presents new works by Jamil Yamani and Louisa Dawson. These works explore narrative and social history by looking at the notion of cycle. This installation maps video footage into a wall that is in demise with ‘end of the world’ narratives. Louisa’s sculptural work juxtaposes everyday objects of washing cycles and swimming pools to connect issues of hygiene, luxury and domesticity.

‘Arc’ explores narratives of the demise of the human race. It takes the latest doomsday, the Mayan 21.12.12 date as its starting point and then regurgitates specific themes found in history and popular culture. Scientists and theologians agree that the human race will end but when and how? The work finds a second starting point in the story of Noah’s Ark and circulates this to the ridiculous theories of moral panic.
