Moozie Moozie Moozie Oi Oi Oi!! 2014
Duration 5mins, stereo audio, looping, 1920x 1080 pixels
‘Multicultural’ can imply a shared celebration of different cultures that exist harmoniously; a patronising civility; a subtext of ‘fit the stereotype or go elsewhere’ or subtle if explicit exclusion. ‘Mussie mussie mussie’ takes an iconic anthem, sung generally at sporting stadiums and replaces the ‘Aussie’ with ‘Mussie’. The slogan has more sinister implications particularly in the context of events like the Cronulla riots in 2005 but also recalls earlier themes such as ‘Wogs Out of Work’.
The work was installed in 2014 as a single screen work at Campbelltown Arts Centre, as a dual screen work Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and as a projection mapped work for UNSW Art and Design's projection night called 'Project Project'.
